COVID-19 Update

We’re back… THIS SUNDAY 9th August 2020!!

Yes, this is exciting news, but there are some important measures that everybody needs to understand and adhere to.
The committee has been working with UQ for over 2 months now in planning to safely re-commence club activities and am honestly stoked that we’ve finally made it to this point. When you’re attending the club, or any club related events the utmost importance must be given to social distancing, personal hygiene and other precautions as you’re representing a body, namely, UQ Wakeboard and Waterski Club (and UQ in the broader picture). Think about how we’ve developed the Crossroads Hotel or the Potts Point, Thai Rock Restaurant to be common within our everyday vocabulary. It would be an absolute nightmare to have UQ’s or UQ Wakeboard and Waterski Club’s name in the news for a COVID cluster. Hence, it’s of similar importance that you’re calling out others for not meeting these measures.

For everybody attending the Club:

  • Spectators are allowed to remain at the club, providing social distancing is strictly adhered to (1.5M apart at all times).
  • Sign in using the attendance register.
  • Maintain good hygiene – follow the COVID-Safe posters around the facility.
  • Sanitise/wash hands upon arrival.
  • We encourage everyone to download and have the Covid-safe App active.
  • Keep plastic chairs above the 1.5M Covid-safe markers.
  • Avoid hands on coaching, look to other tools such as videos.
  • Contact-less payment preferred.
  • All attendees are encouraged to arrange individual transport to and from the facility.
  • Follow capacity limits inside the shed, toilets and boats.
  • Always lock the door to the toilets after use.
  • Anybody who fails to meet social distancing requirements may be asked to leave the premises.
  • The club will not be selling food or drinks. There is to be no sharing of food or drinks.

No one should attend the club if they:

  • Have any flu-like symptoms;
  • Have been in direct contact with a known case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days;
  • Have travelled internationally or interstate and have not yet quarantined for a full 14 days;
  • Are at high risk from a health perspective, including the elderly and those with pre-existing medical health conditions.

Additionally, all members and participants have the responsibility to report to the club in the following circumstances:

  • If you have any flu-like symptoms prior (and do not attend);
  • If you have any flu-like symptoms after attending and require testing; and
  • If you have tested positive for Covid-19; or
  • Been in contact with someone who has returned a positive test for Covid-19.

For the riders/boat crew:

  • Maintain social distancing within and when entering or exiting the boats
  • Limit of 2 crew and 1 driver in the boat at all times (plus the rider if required to be picked up, making it 4 peoples maximum at any time).
  • All members must provide their own towels & water bottles
  • We ask that all riders come prepared (dressed) for their ride, change rooms will not be available
  • Drivers and supervisors must sanitise all high touch surfaces within the sanitiser provided upon exit of the boat
  • Adhere to social distancing while changing drivers/riders

After your ride/leaving the club:

  • Wash down & sanitise your board/ski & life jacket in the soapy water provided, then place it immediately in the drying racks.
  • If you require physical assistance to exit the water, sanitise your hands immediately after (sanitiser will be kept in the boat).
  • Sanitise/wash hands upon exit of the club.
  • Sign out using the attendance register.
  • All high touch surfaces will be sanitised throughout the day
If you’ve got any questions in relation to the above, feel free to send us a message. Our continued operation is contingent upon all members following these regulations, do you bit to help all members continue sending it!
The University of Queensland Wakeboard and Waterski Club was established in 1961 and offers wakeboarding and waterskiing in St Lucia on the Brisbane river. We are the only University club that allows students and non-students to wakeboard and waterski on campus. We are open to the public every Sunday in Brisbane from 10am – 4pm (be there before 2pm to ride) and provide free lessons and coaching for waterskiing, wakeboarding and even kneeboarding. At UQWWC we’ll help you stand up on those slalom water skis for the first time or help you nail that tantrum on the wakeboard you’ve been trying so hard to stick. So come on down and learn how to wakeboard or waterski!

The UQ Wakeboard and Waterski Club offer everything you need including:

  • Wakeboarding and waterskiing every Sunday on campus (open to the public)
  • 2 Malibu club boats
  • Wakeboards, Waterskis, Wakeskates, Kneeboards, Tubes and more! All included in membership.
  • Free coaching from experienced water skiers and wakeboarders
  • 14ft Trampoline, to practice your wakeboard skills or just relax in the sun.
  • Regular camping trips to Lake Moogerah
  • Parties and social events

If you have an interest in being on the water and having fun at social events, then this is the club for you! For regular updates please join our UQWWC Facebook group for more details on upcoming events.
